Mental Health Care and Counseling
Programs that provide preventive, diagnostic and treatment services in a variety of community and hospital-based settings to help people to achieve, maintain and enhance a state of emotional well-being, personal empowerment and the skills to cope with everyday demands without excessive stress. Treatment may include emotional support, introspection and problem-solving assistance utilizing a variety of modalities and approaches, and medication, as needed, for individuals who range from the severely chronically mentally ill through those who are experiencing difficult life transitions or who are having problems in coping with daily living.
Programs that specialize in providing treatment services which represent a particular theoretical orientation or incorporate specialized techniques, methods or practices for people who have mental, emotional or social problems.

Programs that modify the way their therapeutic sessions are structured in order to best meet the individual needs of people who have mental, emotional or social problems or are having difficulty coping with a particular life situation. Included are programs that offer individual, group, family or conjoint counseling, peer counseling or helpline counseling or which provide self-help materials which are intended to be used in lieu of in-person counseling or other forms of treatment.

Mental Health Facilities
Long or short-term care inpatient facilities, counseling agencies and therapists in private practice that offer diagnostic and treatment services for children, adolescents and/or adults who have acute or chronic mental or emotional disturbances or for people who are experiencing difficult life transitions or are having problems coping with daily living.

Outpatient Mental Health Care
Programs that provide diagnostic and treatment services for individuals whose psychiatric problems or other emotional difficulties are not severe enough to require twenty-four hour care but who can benefit from regular consultation and therapy with a mental health professional.

Psychiatric Support Services
