FIFTH GRADERS LEARN HOW ALCOHOL DAMAGES THE DEVELOPING BRAIN
Students in Mrs. Cynthia McBarnes 5th grade class at Liberty Intermediate School in Bourbonnais received a sobering message about the dangers of alcohol on their developing brains from principal Paul Snellenberger as part of the National Reach Out Now Teach-In event held April 6 in the visiting mobile Life Education Center.
Snellenberger was the guest teacher for the teach-in which is part of a national event that specifically targets fifth graders. The Teach-Ins are being sponsored by the Federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and Scholastic, Inc. This is the second time the LEC and Pledge for Life Partnership have facilitated the event which is among several events they are sponsoring in April during National Alcohol Awareness Month. Other schools participating in the event were Bradley West, Milford Grade School, Momence Junior High and King Middle School and St. Paul's Lutheran in Kankakee.
