Recognizing the fact that parents are their child's first and most influential teachers, First Taste focuses on parent education and child development. The program also includes the services of a social worker who helps parents obtain needed services by referring them to proper area agencies. Features include home visits. A Certified Child Development Specialist shares information on parenting and child development, brings age appropriate activites for parent and child and observes the child through play. Visits are conducted at the child's home making it convenient and safe for small children and are on a monthly or bi-weekly basis. Periodic screenings are also completed to insure the child is developmentally on target.
Other activities include Teen Parents, Parenting Classes, Baby Time, Playgroups, Field Trips and Family Fun Nights.
First Taste is a state-funded program that focuses on parent education and child development for parents of children 0-5 years old. It is free to families who reside in District #111. The program provides support and information through home visits, group meetings, and screenings.
