Shapiro Center Annual Open House
Typically held the weekend prior to Memorial Day. Check local papers for dates.
In addition to learning about Shapiro Developmental Center, there will be free activities for the whole family including a craft fair, petting zoo, a parade with a marching band, exhibits and displays of military hardware. Skydiving and demonstrations of rappelling from Shapiro's historic clock tower have been scheduled. There will also be food, entertainment, a miniature tractor pull, pony rides, tractor and wagon rides and tours of Shapiro's historical museum and residential living areas. Many state and local dignitaries will be on hand. The biggest parade in the area will be held on Saturday of the weekend events.
Shapiro Developmental Center is a center for developmentally disabled adults run by the State of Illinois.
