Service/program name: Family Nutrition Program
Description: The Ford-Iroquois Extension Unit is pleased to offer this program to area residents (youth and adults). Areas of emphasis include: Nutrition, food safety, and resource (money) management. All lessons and/or materials are free of charge. Children's programs include: Handwashing, Food Guide Pyramid, Mr. Turkey Says, Lunch with Munchy Mouse, Sugar...My Sweet?, My Trip to the Supermarket, Egsstra Healthy Foods, Mmmilk Makes Me Smile, Fun with Fruits, Gregory the Terrible Eater, From Wheat to Bread, and Do I like Veggies? Adult topics available upon request covering a variety of topics.

Service/program name: Ford-Iroquois 4-H Program
Description: The 4-H program has two main components. Cloverbuds provide age appropriate activities for youth ages 5-7. Membership in a community 4-H club allows youth ages 8-18 to enroll in a variety of project areas of interest to them. Community service projects also teach a variety of important life skills and encourage youth to develop leadership abilities that will shape future career opportunities.

Service/program name: Pressure Canner Testing
Description: Individuals who have a pressure canner with a DIAL gauge should have their lid tested for accuracy every 1-2 years. This is a simple test that can be conducted while you watch at the Extension office. The process takes about 15 minutes to complete. An updated handout of recommended times for processing various food products is also available at the Extension office.

Service/program name: School Enrichment (teacher resource kits)
Description: The Ford-Iroquois 4-H School Enrichment Program is designed with three main goals: (1) to be "teacher-friendly," (2) to enhance and facilitate compliance with State Education Mandates, and (3) to be a fun way for students to learn and experience studies through lessons and hands-on activities. Each School Enrichment resource kit is personally delivered to the classroom teacher. Participating teachers are asked to present at least six lessons and complete the classroom enrollment form. Kits may be reserved for 1 month by the classroom teacher.

Service/program name: Weed and Insect Identification/Gardening Concerns
Description: From May through October, Master Gardners are available at the Ford-Iroquois Extension office on Thursday's from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm to answer questions and identification of potential problems for area gardeners. These individuals have received extensive training from U. of I. Educators on various aspects of horticulture are ready to serve local residents. In addition, local residents may bring samples to the Extension office for an on-line Plant Clinic diagnosis. Trained staff members send digital photos of weeds, diseases, or insects to experts across the state for treatment/recomendations.

Service/program name: Illini Pet Pod
Description: University of Illinios Extension in the Ford-Iroquois Unit has launched a second new podcast -- Illini Pet Pod. The site will be updated biweekly and features information on pet care. Current topics include how pet owners can help their pets beat the heat and stay cool, comfortable, and safe. Other podcasts focus on spring-time pet care for heartworms and fleas, kitten season, pet food recalls and more.
