Service/program name: Sleep Lab
Description: Sleeping is a vital part of the day that provides energy and adequate functioning. The Sleep Lab at Provena St. Mary’s Hospital is dedicated to detecting irregularities during sleep.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome (OSAS) affects five percent of the population. OSAS occurs when the sleep-related throat narrowing is so great that breathing becomes difficult. Loud snoring is the hallmark indication of this potentially life-threatening disorder, although not everyone who snores has OSAS. If left untreated, it can cause excessive daytime sleepiness, hypertension, menstrual irregularities in women, depression and other problems.

Is the sleep lab my answer?
If you experience heavy snoring, an inability to fall asleep, frequent morning headaches, impotence, or other problematic symptoms, make an appointment with the Sleep Lab. Inadequate sleep may be the cause, and early detection is important.

Sleeps are offered every day of the week except for Saturdays. We will, however, work with the patient’s schedule and conduct sleeps on Saturdays when necessary. Recording time lasts six hours, so many patients prefer an overnight stay.

Contact AMITA Health St. Mary’s Hospital Sleep Lab at 815-937-2296 for more information.

Service/program name: Wound Healing Services
Description: AMITA Health St. Mary’s wound healing services offers unique, comprehensive outpatient therapy for both acute (those caused by injury) and chronic (hard to heal) wounds. Nearly five million Americans suffer with chronic open sores as a result of diabetes, pressure ulcers, or circulatory problems. Your primary care provider or the referring provider will be kept informed of your progress.

Don’t suffer, call us today...

If you or someone you know suffers from the pain of non-healing wounds, take a stand and call us today. Because a lifetime of suffering isn't something you should have to endure. Provena St. Mary's Wound healing services are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. To schedule an appointment, or for more information, call 815-937-CARE (2273).

Utilizing a “rooming In” concept, our birthing suites help mothers, fathers, and family members bond with the new baby in a secure environment in which nurses are available for consultation, reinforcement and individual education.

With "Rooming In," baby may now stay with mom in her room instead of the nursery throughout her hospital stay in a comfortable home-like setting. Mothers receive individualized education at their bedside with our competent and compassionate team of nurses who offer instruction in: breastfeeding/ formula feeding; cord care; and diapering/bathing techniques.

Going above and beyond is our philosophy. We are pleased to offer a myriad of special services to not only meet, but exceed your expectations.

Free newborn hearing screening — All babies born here are given a hearing screening with our compliments. We understand the importance of identifying hearing impairments as early as possible so as not to hinder the future development of the child.

Hugs Infant Security System — Moms at Provena St. Mary’s benefit from this additional security to keep babies safe. The hugs infant security system complements the several layers of security already in place in our locked birthing unit. Infants wear sensor bracelets that prohibit their removal from the unit and allow security staff to monitor babies whereabouts within the unit at all times.

FREE Newborn Photo Shoot – Enjoy our gift of “The First 48”, a casual, 20-minute on-site photo shoot courtesy of well-known local photographers.
