A fully accredited liberal arts university offering bachelor's and master's degrees. More than 2,200 students from 30 states and 22 countries study at the 168-acre campus each year. The undergraduate courses of study are divided into seven divisions: Communications, Education, Fine Arts, Nursing, Natural Sciences, Religion, and Social Sciences. Olivet's School of Graduate and Adult Studies offers several programs leading to master's degrees, as well as degree-completion programs at the undergraduate level. Scholarships or financial aid programs are available, including programs of federal and state funding.
Named after Dr. Dwight Strickler, a former biology professor at Olivet, the planetarium features a dome presentation screen with specially designed seating. Each year, approximately 8,000 people view astronomy shows in the planetarium, one of only a few planetariums located on university campuses nationwide. Strickler Planetarium offers a variety of presentations. From Kindergarten to adult there is a program suitable for every age group. Private Presentations are available for 10 or more people. Presentations should be scheduled at least two weeks in advance. We attempt to schedule presentations according to your needs. To schedule your group for a private presentation call (815) 939-5395. Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00-12:00 and 12:30-4:30. Minimum fee per presentation is $15.00. Admission is $1 per person. Benner Library and Resource Center was completed in 1975 at a cost of more than $2 million. A four-story structure of 80,000 square feet, it combines both the new building and the old Memorial Library, which was completed in 1955.
In addition to a collection of 160,000 books, the library also houses over 100,000 other items in various formats (government documents, maps, pamphlets, sheet music, video tapes, records, compact discs, computer software, microfilm, microfiche, etc.) and receives over 900 periodical subscriptions. The library receives hundreds of U.S. government publications annually as a Superintendent of Documents selective depository. Photocopiers, microform reader-printers, and FAX services are available for student use for nominal fees.
The Counseling Lab offers counseling services with a developmental focus. Many concerns are associated with normal life events that produce anxiety. Specific concerns might include: relationship issues, stress and time management, conflict resolution, career issues, life transition issues, problem solving, decision making, assertiveness training, grief and loss. There is no charge for counseling services.
