Description: The Kankakee Valley Park District has 28 parks with a combined total of 600 acres. Facilities include a vita course, 5 Field houses, Civic Auditorium, 96-slip marina, 13 ball diamonds, 15 football fields, 24 playgrounds, 15 basketball courts, 24 tennis courts, 5 boat landings, a bandshell, and 25 recreational groups and clubs.

AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES
The Kankakee Valley Park District Board of Commissioners has adopted a policy outlining the district’s intent to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The district will analyze and evaluate its parks, facilities, programs and services and take reasonable measures to ensure that people with disabilities are accommodated. A written procedure which individuals may use to file a grievance with the district has been established. A grievance may be filed if it is perceived that the district has failed to abide by the applicable provisions of ADA. The district desires all its residents, regardless of disabilities, to participate freely in its parks, facilities, programs and services.

Service/program name: Winterfest
Description: It's cold and snowy. Let's play! Once again, the Kankakee Valley Park District will be at Beckman Park in Kankakee for our annual Winterfest activities. The program is for community families and friends to get together for some fun. We'll have our usual outdoor activities of Turkey Bowling, Golf, Target Toss and Centipede, but this year, we're adding a few "surprises." Arts and crafts for kids, warm drinks, and Monical's Pizza will be inside. Let it snow, let it snow! Service/program name: Youth Trout Fishing Day
Description: Once again, the Northern Illinois Angler's Association and the Kankakee Valley Park District will be hosting its annual Youth Trout Fishing Day at Bird Park Quarry in Kankakee. Bird Park Quarry will be freshly stocked with trout in preparation of this very popular event. NIAA members will be on hand to provide fishing tips, bait, literature, and morning snacks. Additionally, a grant prize will be awarded to the youngster with the longest trout. Parents and/or guardians are welcome to assist the children, but are not allowed to fish during the event. Service/program name: Access to Fishing Program
Description: The Kankakee Valley Park District in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, continues to offer this FREE, fun and educational program. "Access to Fishing" is designed to introduce children and adults to the sport of fishing. Each program participant is provided with a rod, reel and bulk tackle for seven days. As an added bonus, a "beginner's guide" instruction booklet will be given to all participants. All names and addresses will be verified. Supplies limited. Service/program name: Hunter Safety Education
Description: The Illinois Department of Conservation and the Kankakee Valley Park District will again be offering a Hunter Safety Education Course this winter. The program covers basics of hunter responsibility, wildlife conservation and identification, firearms and ammunition, field safety, wildlife management, first-aid, archery, muzzle loading, and state regulations. Some states require this course before obtaining hunting licenses. Participants must present social security cards when registering and attending both days. Description: Again this year, the Kankakee Valley Park District will be offering a program for those interested in staying in shape by walking. Participants will have the opportunity to walk a one mile "track" at KVPD's Parkview Activity Center this winter AND keep track of miles walked on the Tote Board. This program is free. Service/program name: Self-Defense Programs/Classes
Description: The Kankakee Valley Park District offers several self defense programs for all ages. Programs include:

CAPOEIRA(Brazilian Self Defense), created in 18th century Brazil, is a non-oriental martial art. Music is an integral part of the training, helping to develop motor skills used in the art forms application. Become apart of this cultural experience. Beginners and those with some experience are welcome. Sign up today! For ages 16 and older.

TAEKWONDO, in this program, participants will earn the five principles of Taekwondo, which include courtesy, integrity, preserverance, self control and indomitable spirit. Course requirements for belt level advancement will also be covered. Beginners and those with some experience are welcome. For ages 16 and older.

TINY TAEKWDONDO, is an introductory course through which the student learns the fundamentals of Taekwondo at a slower pace. Participants will learn courtesy and self control in addition to the art forms techniques. Don't miss out on this wonderful program. For ages 5 - 10 years of age.

SHAOLIN KUNG FU FOR ALL AGES, is an ancient Chinese martial art form developed by the Saholin monks. Physical and mental training incorporate Kung Fu practices, and many of the techniques imitate the movements of animals. Beginners and those with some experience are welcome.

KICKBOXING, this St. Mary's Health & Fitness program involves an aerobic experience with several martial art forms incorporated. The participant will be exposed to a challenging pace of exercise that requires previous aerobic program experience. a great way to stay in shape this winter. Don't miss out. Description: The Kankakee Valley Park District offers several wellness programs. Please call the park district office or visit the park district website for information on these programs. The Wellness programs include:

TRADITIONAL HATHA YOGA, is open to all levels of experience. Based on the Sivananda system of hatha yoga, each class will include breathing exercises and relaxation techniques as well as the traditional yoga postures to rejuvenate body, mind and spirit. Wear loose, comfortable clothing and refrain from eating 1-2 hours before class. Join us for this wonderful wellness experience. For ages 18 & older.

TAI CHI FOR WELLNESS, has been developed as a practical stress coping strategy as well as a gentle daily exercise routine. This form of Tai Chi is easy to learn and can be practiced daily in about half an hour. The slow movement, gentle stretches, and deep healthful breathing are adaptable for all ages and abilities. Includes elements of yoga and meditation. For ages 18 & older.

ENERGY SESSION, incorporates the practice of Qi Gong. Qi Gong is a scientifically proven method of achieving and mantaining quality of life and features gentle stretching, moderate movement, and guided relaxation. Each session is conducted in a non-competitive and supportive atmosphere, and is adaptable to persons of all ages and abilities. No pre-registration is necessary. Just come in and give it a try. WELLNESS WORKSHOPS -
INTRODUCTION TO MEDITATION, is a practical guide to achieving a higher level of wellness through meditation and relaxation techniques. The class meets 2 times for four hours each time. Some of the techniques covered include ancient meditation methods from Patanjali's "Yoga Sutra" and contemporary methods of "visualization." The fee includes a personal workbook detailing techniques, personal journal, and a professionally recorded musical CD for guided meditation. For ages 18 & older.

INTEGRATIVE QI GONG, this 4 hour intensive workshop teaches the modern application of the ancient system for achieving and maintaining health. All aspects of the gentle exercises will be covered, along with information regarding stress management and nutrition. The fee includes "Gentle Wind, Fine Rain" textbook, assessment workbook, and professionally recorded musical CD of Qi Gong techniques. Wonderful stress management opportunity. For ages 18 & older.

THE WELLNESS GROUP
Kan Jie is the wellness club offering positive regard and support. Membership is bi-annual, with many special events and opportunities to put healthy living into practice. Join the fun. CHICAGO FLOWER & GARDEN SHOW
The long, cold winter is winding down, and KVPD has the perfect way to spring into the warmer weather. Join us for our annual trip to the Chicago Flower & Garden Show. In addition to the regular features of theme gardens and colorful literature, this year’s show will have an English Garden designed by an exhibitor from the famed Chelsea Garden Show, as well as a fantastic lecture series. Service/program name: Beckman Harbor Boat Slip Rentals
Description: Would you like to enjoy the beautiful and scenic Kankakee River without the hassle of moving your boat around all summer? Kankakee’s Beckman Boat Harbor has several spaces for boats up to 26 feet long. Each slip rental includes a parking pass, night security and courtesy for loading and unloading your boat. The harbor is fenced in, and each renter receives a key to access their boat. All registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Beckman Boat Harbor opens for the season on May 15. Proof of registration, ownership and insurance is required at time of rental.

The Pilates Method is a conditioning program that improves muscle control, flexibility, coordination, strength and tone. Pilates work is concerned with the process itself – experiencing all movement from the inside out by focusing on the present moment instead of placing the entire emphasis upon “doing”. Service/program name: Summer Day Camps
Description: The Kankakee Valley Park District and the 21st Century Community Learning Center are teaming up again this summer to bring your child a summer filled with all sorts of fun! Throughout the summer, children will be learning, playing and exploring a variety of games, fun activities, and arts and crafts. This camp is funded by a Federal Grant through the 21st Learning Center which serves residents of Kankakee only. You will receive more information in TEAM flyers through your school or call the park district at 939-1311. For ages: children entering 1st – 6th grade. Tentative Dates: June 9th-July 25th

Description: This program is a cooperative effort with local law enforcement agencies and KVPD’s neighborhood park advisory committees. To involve the youth of this area in this movement, “SEEMORE,” the mascot for Neighborhood Park Watch, will visit schools or school clubs, local parades, festivals, church group functions and neighborhood block parties. The park district will make every effort to create public awareness in the parks for safety and crime prevention. KVPD and this community will work together to keep the parks beautiful and the neighborhoods safe.

Service/program name: Youth Co Ed Indoor Soccer
Description: Looking for more soccer action? This is a quality indoor soccer league for both boys and girls. Players will learn and improve their soccer skills, teamwork, sportsmanship, and most importantly have fun! Each player will receive a team uniform, including a soccer jersey, matching shorts and socks and a post season award/recognition. Players will be divided into three separate age divisions. Each team will play eight games. Practices are held once during the week and games are held on Saturday mornings/early afternoons. Teams will be organized through a blind draft. No requests will be considered although immediate family may be placed on the same team. Shin guards and tennis shoes are mandatory. The park district is seeking volunteer coaches and team sponsorships. If interested, please call 939-1311. For ages: 5-11 yrs.

Description: Hey kids, wanna get out of the house! Come by yourself or bring a friend to enjoy a night of soccer! Soccer coaches will be present to organize teams and playing time. A KVPD Supervisor will also be on hand. Tennis shoes and shin guards are required. Parents must register and sign wavier on or before first visit. Children will not be able to play without parents’ signature! Parents may pre-register at PAC or register at the door. For ages: boys and girls, ages 10-15

Description: Have you run out of ideas for your child’s birthday party?

Have your next party at the Kankakee Valley Park District. KVPD’s Birthday Party Coordinator, invites you to give her the privilege of making your child’s birthday a spectacular event! All birthday party packages include: Birthday Party Coordinator, facility, 1/4 sheet decorated cake or cupcakes, beverages, creative decorations and a party full of fun supervised activities! Adults are welcome free of charge. Children are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and tennis shoes suitable for running. Birthday party themes may be requested at an additional cost of $5. See below for available themes. Each party is designed with age appropriate activities. Parties must be booked at least two weeks in advance.
