The Treasurer's Office of Kankakee County is responsible for the collection of real Property Taxes levied on the property by the various taxing authorities based on the valuation and current property usage as set by the Assessor's Office. Notices are sent to property owners based on the names and addresses on file at the Assessor's Office. The tax is on the property, not the person whose name is on the notice or owner of record. If the tax is not paid eventually the property may be forfeited and auctioned. The County Treasurer's Office is responsible for the following: prepare and mail tax bills, issue corrected tax bills, treasurer for over 60 bank accounts, tax sale authority, collects tax money, distributes tax money to taxing bodies, serves as an accounting agent for other county departments, mails and collects mobile home bills, treasurer for County drainage districts, address changes on tax bills, manages the County's investments.
