Service/program name: Kankakee Community College
Description: In its College Credit Division, KCC awards associate degrees in more than 40 areas of study and certificates of completion in 17 areas. Students attend KCC both to prepare to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor's degree and to prepare to enter the job market directly from KCC. KCC also offers non-degree programs to meet a variety of community needs, including workforce development and remedial development, through its Office of Corporate and Continuing Education and its Division of Adult & Community Education.

Description: KCC is governed by a seven-member, locally elected board of trustees. They are responsible for establishing institutional policies, approving financial expenditures and appointing the college president. They serve without compensation.

Description: The Learning Resource Center collection at KCC includes 49,000 volumes of books,periodicals,audio and video recordings. LRC Microform collection includes the Kankakee paper, and other periodicas. The LRC has an online public access catalog and access to library holdings worldwide.

Description: The Workforce Investment Act of 1998 provides the framework for a unique national workforce preparation and employment system designed to meet both the needs of the nation's businesses and the needs of job seekers and those who want to further their careers. The most important aspect of the Act is its focus on meeting the needs of businesses for skilled workers and the training, education, and employment needs of individuals. Key components of the Act will enable customers to:

easily access the information and services they need through the "One-Stop" system;
empower adults to obtain the training they find most appropriate through Individual Training Accounts, which allow adult customers to "purchase" the training they determine best for them;
ensure that all State and local programs meet customer expectations
In Kankakee and Livingston counties, funding for the WIA program is provided by the Grundy Livingston Kankakee Workforce Board.

Description: HS CREDIT FOR ADULTS

High school level Adult Secondary Education (ASE) classes are offered in the evening at KCC and area high schools for persons wishing to earn credits toward completion of a traditional high school diploma. Credit is granted by the student's high school district. Interested persons should contact their hometown high school principal or counselor for admission to the program.
