The Attorney General is the chief law enforcement officer in Illinois, coordinating crime-fighting activities with state, county and local authorities. He/she also is the state's chief legal officer, representing other elected state officials, departments and agencies in court.
The Office of the Attorney General leads the statewide fight against crime and violence. Staff assists local state's attorneys in the prosecution of major crimes, provides legal representation to all elected state officials and the departments and agencies of state government, and acts to guard the interests of the people of Illinois.
Along with fighting crime, services include: Helping Crime Victims, Preserving the Environment, Protecting Consumers, Law Enforcement Leadership, and Advocacy.
The Attorney General is the lawyer for the state and its citizens and advocates to protect consumers and safeguard the environment. Provides assistance to victims of violent crimes.
